Deadly Makiki fire was arson — and now a homicide case

Police yesterday reclassified last week's Makiki house fire that killed two people as a homicide following the fire department's determination that the fire was deliberately set. However, only one of the victims is considered a homicide victim, police said. The other death has been classified as accidental.

Hawaii slaying victim had sought restraining order against suspect

The Kailua man who was fatally shot in his home Monday night had sought a court order against the suspect, saying that the suspect had struck him in the face. Lawyer Craig Kimsel, who was shot in his Oneawa Street home, had filed for a temporary restraining order in January, but it was not served against Daniel Kahanaoi because Kahanaoi could not be located, the records show.
