Former city manager to be water board engineer

The Honolulu Board of Water Supply has appointed Wayne M. Hashiro as the ninth manager and chief engineer of the Board of Water Supply. Hashiro told Mayor Mufi Hannemann this month that he was stepping down as city managing director to return to his first love, engineering. He will be responsible for the direction and management of the agency.

Shoreline fishing banned for all of coming year

The state will close the Waikiki-Diamond Head shoreline to fishing for a year starting New Year's Day. The fishing ban encompasses the nearshore waters from the Waikiki War Memorial Natatorium to the Diamond Head Lighthouse, and from the high-water mark on shore to a minimum seaward distance of 500 yards.

Kapa’a teenager hit by truck on Kuhio Highway

A 15-year-old Kapa'a girl was airlifted to The Queen's Medical Center in Honolulu on Monday evening after being hit by a pickup truck in Kealia. She remained in critical condition yesterday, Kaua'i County officials said.
